The capital of each of the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City, Kosovo and Taiwan (Palestine is left out: its claimed capital, East Jerusalem, would duplicate Jerusalem, and Ramallah is only an administrative seat). Where a country splits its capital, the constitutional or most commonly quizzed seat is used: Sucre for Bolivia (La Paz also accepted), Pretoria for South Africa, Amsterdam for the Netherlands, Porto-Novo for Benin, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte for Sri Lanka, Kuala Lumpur for Malaysia, Mbabane for Eswatini, Sanaa for Yemen and Yaren for Nauru, which has no official capital. Equatorial Guinea's capital is Ciudad de la Paz, declared by decree on 2 January 2026 (Malabo until then); the city is still being built (about 2,000 residents in 2022). Population in millions is the latest figure on the city's Wikidata item (P1082); cities are measured by their own administrative limits, which for some (e.g. Beijing, Kinshasa, Dhaka) span a whole municipality or metropolitan region (Kuala Lumpur uses its 2020 census city figure, because Wikidata's covers Greater KL).
