Population of each region: the latest figure recorded on Wikidata (P1082), checked against the outline, so a figure belonging to another unit (the capital city, a larger or reorganised region) or implausible for the region is not used; where Wikidata has few regional figures, the official subnational statistics of the national statistics office published by OCHA (COD-PS), for the whole country; for countries whose divisions changed since Natural Earth, the figure of the national statistics office, as each item names it. Each item names its source and year; years differ between countries. Regions without a figure are left out. One per group: the most populous region of each country by this measure, then ranked together.
