Capitals of first-level administrative units (states, provinces, regions): the capital Wikidata records for the unit (P36), else the seat GeoNames records for it (PPLA); a second, summer or winter capital is left out. A national capital is in only where it is also its unit’s seat (Canberra for the Australian Capital Territory, Brasília for the Federal District), not where the unit has another capital (Ottawa: Toronto; Amsterdam: Haarlem). Côte d'Ivoire’s own list of its cities: the population of each sous-préfecture as Institut National de la Statistique (INS), via the Ministère du Plan et du Développement counts it (RGPH 2021, Résultats globaux: population by sous-préfecture or commune, 2021 census), the way the country ranks its cities. A city that is not one of the list’s sous-préfectures of 10,000 people or more is left out. Metro area, urban centre and city proper rank the same cities by the worldwide measures instead, so they compare across borders. Sources: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), Institut National de la Statistique (INS), RGPH 2021 Résultats globaux, 22 July 2022 (plan.gouv.ci, licence ouverte), Wikidata names and capitals (CC0).
