Area in km²: standard reference totals including inland water, as in the Countries set. Ethnic groups: the CIA World Factbook’s shares (its latest census or estimate, often years old; countries that do not record ethnicity have none). Where the Factbook counts nationality or country of birth, only the largest entry counts, and only when it is over half the people. A group the Factbook counts together with another (“Mestizo and White”, “Arab-Amazigh”) is neither on its own. Indigenous counts every Indigenous people it names (Maya, Mapuche, Aymara, Māori) together. A majority is over half the people; “5% or more” counts the group’s entries together.
