Drainage area in km², measured on the HydroSHEDS HydroBASINS level 5 units that drain to the river’s mouth. The units are coarse, so a basin can differ from published figures (the Amazon’s 5.9 million km² leaves out the Tocantins). The basins of the rivers of 10,000 km² or more that HydroSHEDS HydroBASINS (level 5 units) resolves, named after their river: all the land that drains to its mouth. Endorheic basins drain to an inland sea or lake (the Volga’s, into the Caspian).
