Length of each country’s sea coast in km, as the CIA World Factbook gives it. One source for every country, because a coast’s length depends on how finely it is measured and figures from different sources do not compare. France’s is its total with the overseas regions; Palestine’s is the Gaza Strip’s. Landlocked countries are left out. Geotcha counts 197 countries: the 193 UN members plus Vatican City, Kosovo, Taiwan and Palestine. Island nation: a country none of whose land lies on a continental mainland (Afro-Eurasia, the Americas, Australia, Antarctica), as Natural Earth draws it: 47 countries, Indonesia and the United Kingdom among them, Australia not. Mainland: the other countries. Sources: CIA World Factbook (public domain), Natural Earth 1:50m admin-0.
